QUICK TIP: Give your actors the credit they deserve!
Aug 07, 2024When reviewing film submissions on FilmFreeway, I notice a lot of filmmakers don’t credit their cast accurately. Many filmmakers don’t credit all of their lead and supporting roles. Some only credit one or two main lead actors and leave off the supporting actors. Others may include all of their main and supporting actor names, but then don’t offer the character name, and instead simply put “key cast”.
This can be an issue for several reasons:
1 – You should give the people involved with your project all the credit they deserve – this includes cast AND crew. It’s just the right thing to do.
2 – When a festival is deciding between films, often the actors involved can make a difference, whether the festival directors know the actor personally, or the actor is a ‘name’ talent, it can have an effect on your submission.
3 – If your film ends up being an Official Selection and the festival offers awards in acting, it is difficult for the festival to award a deserving actor if they don’t know the actor’s name. Make their job easy – List the character name and actor name on your FilmFreeway project page (and double check that you spelled it correctly, while you’re at it!).
I hope this helps with your future submissions!
